Syrian President Bashar Al Assad met Omani Ambassador Turki bin Mahmoud Al Busaidy and received his credentials, the Omani news agency ONA reported today.

Last month, Oman became the first Gulf country to send back its ambassador to Syria eight years after withdrawing the diplomat from the war-wracked country.

During his meeting with Al Assad held in Damascus, the Omani ambassador conveyed greetings from Oman’s Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik and “his wishes of progress and prosperity for the brotherly Syrian people”, according to ONA.

In response, Al Assad stressed his government’s keenness to boost ties with Oman.

During the meeting, existing cooperation between the two countries was reviewed and emphasis was laid on the importance of “pushing forward and developing” joint interests, the agency said without details.
