Oman to host Ironman event for first time

For the first time, the Sultanate of Oman will host a triathlon.

The event, organised by Triathlon Middle East Company, will unfold in two parts.

The inaugural 5i50 Muscat will be held on 2nd November 2018, while the IRONMAN 70.3 Oman is scheduled for 1st March, 2019.

Athletes will begin the competition with a 1.5 km swim at Al Shatti beach in Qurum. Athletes will then race over a 40 km bike route starting from Shatti, travelling past major landmarks, including the Royal Opera House Muscat, Muttrah Gate, and Al Bustan Palace.

Lastly, participants will run 10 km on a two-lap course, which will pass through Shatti Al Qurum and Royal Opera House, returning to the start of the first lap in front of Jawharat Al Shatti.

The entire race is expected to last some four hours and is expected to attract more than 3,000 competitors from all Gulf countries, Lebanon and several European countries.

Oman Air is the airline partner and has provided free transportation for all participants’ bicycles.

Mwasalat, another partner, will provide complimentary transfers of all participants from Muscat Airport to the hotels and to the race venue. The free service also includes transportation for participants’ families.

Additional competitions

“We will be organising IRONKIDS and IRONGIRLS as a side event, along with IRONMAN70.3 Oman,” said Ali Al Tamimi, Triathlon Middle East’s General Manager.
