Countries in the Middle East and North Africa region reported new COVID-19 cases and virus-linked fatalities on Thursday.

In Oman, 1,067 new cases were registered over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 19,954, according to the Health Ministry.

The Gulf country also confirmed five more deaths, bringing the tally to 89.

A total of 6,632 patients have recovered from the virus so far.

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi asked the public to limit family visits, and adhere to physical distance, wear face masks and observe precautionary measures.

Bahrain’s Health Ministry said that out of the 7,776 COVID-19 tests carried out on Wednesday, 468 new cases have been detected.

The kingdom’s confirmed cases now stand at 16,667, including 32 deaths and 11,487 recoveries.

The Ministry of Health has stressed that it is the national responsibility of all to follow social distancing guidelines in order to ensure the mitigation of the virus and the safety of the community.

It attributed the recent increase in infections to family and social gatherings, leaving home for unnecessary reasons, and negligence when complying with the health measures.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Morocco reported 25 new virus cases, bringing the figure to 8,533, including 211 deaths and 7,570 recoveries.

In Libya, the National Center for Disease Control reported 19 new cases, bringing the national total to 378. The figures also includes five fatalities and 59 recoveries.
