Muttrah Fort is located on top of a rocky hill overlooking the harbour, guarding the entry to Muscat from the sea. A medieval edifice built by the Portuguese in the 1850s, it has three circular towers. The largest among these sits at the summit while the other two occupy points west and north of it, respectively.
