Muscat Duty Free General Manager Rob Marriott has said engaging shoppers, lifting service levels and focusing on opportunity categories such as destination merchandise are among the early priorities in his new role.

As reported, he took over the position around three months ago from Martin Mullen, who moved to lead ARI’s project to open at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal later this year.

Muscat Duty Free opened its stores at the new Muscat International Airport in March 2018.

Marriott said:

“Our mission is simple: giving great value and product availability, providing exceptional service with highly trained, motivated and happy colleagues. And that’s where my focus needs to be in the early stages.”

He added:

“I’ve been in retail many years and I take a simple view: what does the customer want? We have to listen to them and get the offer right. That’s the plan this year, to tweak the detail and to work hard with the team. We have introduced a programme called HOT Smile – HOT for Hello. Often. Thanks – so that visitors are assured of a good experience. It’s all about the people we serve and the colleagues we work with.”

With the stores only just over a year old, Marriott said it is too early to plan for upgrades, but fine-tuning of the mix will continue.
