A five-day countrywide lockdown would be imposed in Jordan from Nov. 11, a day after the country’s parliamentary elections,

as a measure to halt the hysterical rise in the number of daily coronavirus infections, Jordan’s Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh announced on Sunday.

Over the past 24-hour period ending on Sunday, the combined figure of patients who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Jordan has risen by 3,259 to 75,866, whereas 37 more people succumbed to the disease over the stated period, taking the national death toll jumping to 866.

The prime minister said in a news briefing held in the capital city of Amman that the lockdown would come into effect at about 5:00 p.m. local time on Nov. 11.

Jordanian government further adopted forward new measures, which involved reducing large gatherings, increasing the curfew time by one hour and shutting amusement parks and gyms

According to Khasawneh, “Starting tomorrow, there will be more police patrols that would enforce the defense laws related to wearing face masks and issue fines against violators.”
